Hotmail Gadget: Look and feel seems to be the main complaint of the Hotmail gadget users. This gadget uses an embedded page from MSN Mobile which unfortunately cannot be controlled by the gadget's author or by the gadget user. However, if you use Firefox for your browser, you now have options available! Greasemonkey to the rescue! You can now download a script which:
- Sets a nicer looking font
- Removes the Hotmail logo on top to maximize space
- Removes the mobile phone access keys which have no use in a browser
- Sets a nicer style for form elements
To download the script, you will need
- The
Firefox browser
- The
Greasemonkey plugin. Download it to your Firefox
browser by clicking the green Install Now button
on that page.
You need to get this before getting the actual script
because the Greasemonkey Add-in allows independently written scripts to be added to your Firefox functionality.
- You're almost done... Now you need to download one more thing: a Hotmail gadget "script". If you've never heard of these
scripts, don't worry, they just become part of your Firefox browser functionality to help your Hotmail gadget look nicer.
You can get rid of it anytime (see bottom of page). After you click on one of the links below,
click on the black button
which you'll see on the upper right, then "Install" in the dialog box. Then go look at your hotmail gadget again!
If you want to delete any scripts that you've added, in the Firefox browser go to Tools --> Greasemonkey --> Manage User Scripts
Please contact us if you have any questions or other script requests.
